Minoxidil is the only drug approved by the FDA for external use in the treatment of hair loss. Previously, it was generally believed that the higher the concentration of minoxidil, the more effective, because studies have shown that minoxidil 5% is more effective than 2%.
Many people therefore conclude that minoxidil 10 percent is also more effective than 5%, but it is not popular because of the greater risk of side effects such as irritation and dizziness and low blood pressure. Some foreign brands like Lipogain and Minoxidilmax have launched 10% minoxidil, which has attracted the interest of many netizens.
However, whether 10% is really more effective than 5%, in fact, it has never been proven before, and the higher the concentration of minoxidil, the better the effect: An in vitro study conducted by the Department of Dermatology, Peking University First Hospital in 2002 Studies have shown that minoxidil promotes the growth of human scalp hair follicles in a certain concentration range, and its positive regulation effect on hair follicles is direct. However, high concentrations inhibited the growth of hair follicles.
For the treatment of hair loss, the FDA only approved 5% and 2% minoxidil, and other concentrations were not approved. If 5% and 2% minoxidil are not effective for you, you can try higher concentrations or seek other supplements or alternative treatments for hair loss. If 5% minoxidil is effective, you do not need to consider higher concentrations.
